Assistive Technology & TRAID
Find the Technology That Works for You
The right technology can open doors, remove barriers, and make everyday life more accessible. Through the New York State Technology-Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities (TRAID) program, the Resource Center for Accessible Living (RCAL) helps people explore Assistive Technology that supports their individual needs, goals, and independence.
You don't have to know exactly what you need to get started. RCAL can help you explore your options, try available devices, and discover what works best for you.
What Is Assistive Technology?
Assistive Technology (AT) is any device, tool, or technology that helps a person with a disability accomplish something they want or need to do.
AT can help people communicate, move around, read, write, learn, work, manage daily activities, participate in their communities, and live more independently. The right solution depends on the individual, their preferences, and what they want to accomplish.
How Can RCAL Help?
Through the TRAID program, RCAL offers services to help individuals explore Assistive Technology and make informed choices about the tools that may work best for them.

Who Can Benefit?
The TRAID program supports people with a wide range of disabilities, including physical, sensory, cognitive, and developmental disabilities, as well as temporary and long-term disabilities.
Assistive Technology can benefit people of all ages and with different support needs. Whether you're looking for ways to communicate more effectively, navigate your environment, accomplish daily tasks, or participate more fully in your community, exploring available technology can be a helpful first step.
Why Try Assistive Technology?
Choosing technology is a personal process. A device that works well for one person may not be the right fit for someone else.
The opportunity to explore and try Assistive Technology can help individuals make informed decisions, avoid unnecessary purchases, and find solutions that support their own priorities.
At RCAL, we believe independence begins with choice. Our goal is to help people explore their options and find tools that work for them.
