Support Groups

Support Groups are offered by the Resource Center for Accessible Living, Inc. RCAL Support Groups are  welcoming, accessible and a safe place to share positive and negative feelings.

Our facilitators will assist you in:

  • Maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Identifying and using various resources for your well-being.
  • Learning ways of dealing with feelings and emotions.
  • Developing effective coping skills and adaptive behaviors.
  • Enhancing your self-esteem.
  • Helping yourself and helping others.

We offer the following Support Groups:

  • Amputee (Limb Loss of the Hudson Valley) – last Monday of each month at 6:00 pm. Hal Grunenwald & John Vacca, Facilitators
  • Hands on Communication – 2nd and 4th Wednesdays each month, starting at 6:30 pm. Gene Nettle & Lolli Edinger, Facilitators
  • Independent Living Skills – 3rd Tuesday of each Month at 5:30 pm at RCAL. Marge Knox, Facilitator (This group often meets offsite, so please call RCAL at (845) 331-0541 for more information.) Begins April 2011
  • Kids Diabetes – For information contact Suzanne de Beaumont, Facilitator, at (845) 331-0541. Schedule to be determined.
Children with diabetes face unique challenges. The need to “fit in” and be “normal” are strong motivators. Getting together with other children facing the same obstacles of insulin and blood glucose management can be helpful. As the mother of a 13 year old son diagnosed with diabetes, I found support groups focused primarily on adults. Therefore, I want to create a child centered support group where family members are welcome. If you are interested in forming a group, please call the above number.
  • Laura L. Purdy Memorial Scleroderma – 3rd Saturday of every other month from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. Sandy Guenette, Facilitator (call 845-247-0605 to confirm group meeting and to get further information)
  • Traumatic Brain Injury – 2nd Monday of each month at 3:30 pm. Josephine Todaro, Facilitator

All Support Groups are held at RCAL, unless specified otherwise.
